Event Information

Due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19, this year’s event is being hosted virtually by Perth & Kinross Disability Sport during the month of January 2021 in partnership with Angus Disability Sport, Dundee City Disability Sport, Perth Strathtay Harriers, ANGUSalive and Scottish Disability Sport. It is especially exciting to offer this opportunity during Paralympic year as we look forward to Tokyo 2020/21 from 24th August to 5th September 2021 where thousands of athletes from over 100 countries will compete and inspire the next generation of young people with a disability.

Sportshall Athletics is an indoor programme of adapted run, jump and throw activities which is fully inclusive. Events include Speed-bounce, Foam javelin, Shuttle runs, Target throw, Standing Long Jump, Hi-stepper, Seated chest push and running races.

You are invited to enter primary and secondary school pupils from Primary 1 upwards who have physical, learning and/or sensory disabilities to take part in the event. Pupils with an additional support need such as ASD, ADHD etc are also very welcome to participate.

There is no cost to enter and please contact graeme@pkds.org.uk for an entry form. There are two parts to the entry form this year.

1. For Registration – name, gender, year group and disability category – please return this by 23rd December 2020.
• WC – wheelchair user – manual and powerchair
• PD – Ambulant Physical Disability
• VI – Visual Impairment
• HI – Hearing Impairment

Feel free to use your imagination if you don’t have the exact kit, we want this to be a flexible enjoyable experience for all. If any pupils do not wish to take part in any of the activities, then no problem, just record the scores for the events they did participate in.

The focus is very much on having fun and participation, however if any of your pupils enjoy these activities and would like to take part in athletics on a regular basis, for details on how to get involved please get in touch.

Photographs

Please share your school’s photos and videos with us throughout the challenge that you are happy for us to use on our social media, website and local press. Please do not share any with us if there are pupils who do not have permission for photographs to be taken for use in the public domain.

National Virtual Sportshall Athletics Event

30 pupils in total,10 from Perth & Kinross, 10 from Dundee City and 10 from Angus will have their results selected to represent their local area at the Scottish Disability Sport national virtual event in February/March.
These virtual ‘teams’ will be made up with a mixture of pupils with a learning, physical or sensory disability as per Scottish Disability Sport/Scottish Athletics guidelines.
We will be in touch as soon as possible after the event to advise you if one of your pupils has been selected. They will not need to do the activities again, we will simply enter their results from this event.
